In addition to the events above, Free Time Family created Valentine's Day projects for your family to complete together.

Crystal Hearts

The first project is crystal hearts. We were inspired by the crystal snowflakes we made at Cool Creek Nature Center a few weeks ago.

Our kids LOVED making their own heart shapes and watching the crystals grow.

Simply boil water and mix with Borax, about a 3:1 ratio. Lower your felt heart into the hot mixture, making sure the heart doesn't touch the sides of the container. Let sit 24 hours.

Check out our video making the crystals.

Full instructions can be found here.

***Make sure children do NOT ingest any Borax.

Rosewater Facial Toner

The second activity is making rosewater toner from fresh roses. Save the petals from your bouquet and make this quick and easy facial toner with tons of skincare benefits, including:

  • Natural hydration

  • Soothing irritated and red skin

  • Balancing skin’s pH levels

  • Tightening pores

  • Anti-aging properties

  • Enhancing skin radiance

  • Preparing skin for better absorption of skincare products

We distilled our rose water to get the most pure and potent product. And we did not use just any water. We used mineral-rich groundwater from an aquifer deep beneath the Earth's surface at the artesian well at Flowing Well Park in Carmel.

Check out our video making rosewater. Full instructions can be found here.

Have a great week celebrating Valentine's Day with your family!
