October Free Family Event Recap

October is a great month for free family events as it kicks off fall and the holiday season.

After attending the free Halloween Carnival Haunted House and Hayride at the Hamilton County 4-H Fairgrounds and the STEAM Explorers, Jr. event at the Carmel Library in early October, we squeezed in a few more fun events before Halloween.

Over fall break we went to the "Spooky Trees and Other Things" event for preschoolers at Cool Creek Nature Center. We learned about "spooky" creatures such as owls, spiders and bats and even Sycamore trees. The kids then colored owl masks before heading out on a hike where we learned about mushrooms and poison ivy.

Cool Creek always do a fantastic job, and their programs are both entertaining and educational. The Hamilton County Parks and Recreation event calendar includes all the free family events at Cool Creek Nature Center.

Before Halloween, we checked out two events on Saturday, October 26. One was Boo Bash in Fishers at the Nickel Plate Amphitheater. We have attended Boo Bash multiple times over the years. The organizers have done a great job adjusting and expanding the event over time to improve the traffic flow. There were inflatable games, food trucks, music and tons of vendors passing out candy at their decorated booths. We love that it gives the kids an extra opportunity to wear their Halloween costumes before the main event.

We recently discovered another event on the same morning as Boo Bash that we checked out for the first time. Cars and Coffee trick or treating held just south of IKEA in Fishers. It was an extra special event because our kids got to check out cool vehicles AND get candy! Some owners even decorated their vehicles for Halloween too. Vendor booths and food trucks were on site as well.
